Ariolu Vows To Continue Fight Against Illegal Refinery Operators

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Barrister George Ariolu has vowed to sustain his onslaught against illegal oil bunkering in the area despite threats to his life from some quarters.
This is coming against the background of the pledge by the Woji traditional institution to support both the local and state governments on any effort that would ensure sanity in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Woji Council of Traditional Rulers and Elders in his office at Rumuodumanya, Ariolu also urged communities in the area to be vigilant as most of those involved in the nefarious trade now do it at night.
Ariolu said cases of respiratory disorders have continued to be on the increase, adding that time has come for all patriotic citizens to step up their efforts with a view to stopping the menace.
The OBALGA chairman credited the prevailing peace in Woji to the efforts of the traditional institution in the community, and called for the peace to be sustained.
Ariolu also pledged to build a 12-classroom block secondary school in the community.
Earlier, the Eze Woji, Eze Emeka Ihunwo, had said the community was ready to support every effort by both the local and state governments that wouldhelp restore sanity to the state.
Ihunwo also said the community mobilised its people against ‘Kpofire’ in 2018, noting that uptill this moment, no illegal oil bunkering business has been carried out in Woji territory.
He said the visit was to congratulate the chairman on his victory in the last Local Government Election, and to also assure him of the community’s readiness to work for the success of his administration.
“Whatever you want us to do for you to succeed, we are ready to do it”, he assured.
He said Woji has not had any crisis since 1999, noting that the community was one of the most peaceful in Rivers State.
Ihunwo also thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for giving the LG council chairman the opportunity to serve his people.
He called for the chairman’s support to the community, noting that Wojiwas now united than ever before.
