RSU Set To Graduate 4,970 Students

The Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt will be graduating a total of 4,970 students in this year’s 33rd convocation ceremony of the university.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Nlerum S. Okogbule stated this during a press conference held on Monday at the new Senate building of the university.
Okogbule announced that the convocation ceremony will be divided into two segments, namely, the Bachelor’s Degree which will be awarded on Friday, 3rd December, 2021 and the high degrees on Saturday, 4th December respectively.
According to him, the whole idea is to address the issue of possible over-crowding in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols and reduce the time spent on each day.
He said that during these two days, exhibition of some of the research findings, designs, inventions and innovations by staff of the university will be showcased.
“The purpose is to draw the attention of the public to some relevant research findings to see how corporate entities and individuals can support the university in improving the well-being of mankind”, he said.
He stated that the university which had only seven faculties in 1980, now has 12 faculties: namely; Humanities, Social Sciences. Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences and Faculty of Clinical Sciences with the prestigious College of Medical Sciences. He said there is a new faculty called Faculty of Entrepreneurial Studies which will be the first in the country. “I am happy to announce to you the breakdown of graduands as follows; Bachelor’s Degree: First Class 31, Second Class Honours Upper Division, 884, Second Class Honour Lower Division, 1, 793, Third Class Division 574, Pass Division, 63; Post-Graduate Diplomas, 436, Masters Degrees, 960, Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 229.
According to him, the university has achieved so much which explained why it was recognised and given a prestigious award by the International Achievement Research Council in Montreal, Canada.
Through the support of the Rivers State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TET Fund), he noted that good number of projects have been completed while some are ongoing. He also stated that the four new campuses of the university at Ahoada, Emohua, Etche and Sakpenwa are now under construction and work has reached advanced stage and are expected to be commissioned in May, 2022.
The Vice Chancellor thanked the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike and all Rivers sons and daughters for their kind gesture and prayed that the Almighty God would give them more vision in order to take the school to greater heights.
