NSCDC To Partner Stakeholders On Fight Against Crime
The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Aliyu Nature, has said that it is prepared to partner with relevant stakeholders in its plans to fight crime.
Nature said this when members of the Energy and Maritime Reporters paid a courtesy call on him in his office in Port Harcourt recently.
“We will work in synergy with the Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) for enhanced reportage of its operations and the security of the vital maritime oil and gas industry including other critical national assets”, he said.
The Commandant appreciated the group over its concern in the sector and reassured them of the importance of their collaboration.
According to him, it was necessary for the NSCDC to work with the media especially those that have nexus with the outfit and its modus operandi.
”It is important for us to work with you because most of our activities have to do with the public, and for the public to understand our activities, it is you that will take the information to them”, he said.
He noted that at times, its operations take place at mid night while the people are asleep, adding that people and the media only take notice of such efforts during the day.
“The following day, you will come up, see us and we show you the arrests we made and some suspects we have and you carry this information to the grassroots. So, your coming is very important”, he said.
He also stressed the importance of the synergy, on the basis that the media has its ears to the ground and hinted that it heard both gossip and confirmed information.
The commandant further pleaded with his guests not to conceal any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of any criminal element in their area and added that such practice would fast track the elimination of criminals in the society.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Assistant Commandant Mike Oguntuase, the Head, Oil and Gas Operations, Assistant Commandant Fyneface Omiete, and the head of the anti-vandals unit, Assistant Commandant Abdullahi Musa were among the officers that received the guests.
