All Stars Tourney: Uniport X-Pros Emerge Champions
University of Port Harcourt X- Professionals All Stars Football Club on Saturday emerged champions of the maiden edition of All Stars Football competition.
The encounter which witnessed huge crowd saw UNPORT X-Pros defeat hard fighting Rumuomasi All Stars 1-0, at Sharks Football Club Stadium, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with sports journalists shortly after the match, the coach of UNIPORT X-Pros, Tamunoimama Amakiri, revealed that their success was due to consistency, commitment and being together for a long time.
According to him, the players were same players that won NUGA games in 2004, adding that they are intact and kept their fitness.
” Honestly, our success was because the players were playing together for a very long time, these are same players that won NUGA Games in 2004, apart from that, the commitment was there.
Besides,the organisation of the tournament and the quality of play from clubs is really high,” Amakiri said.
Also speaking, the head coach of Rumuomasi All Stars, Christian Eke, praised his side for an impressive performance, saying that in football if you take advantage of an opportunity, you will win the game.”
He explained that his opponent, utilised the opportunity they had to go home with the victory.
” We did well, football is all about opportunity, they had it and they utilised it” Eke said.
He commended the organisers and encouraged them to make the competition annually.
Unique All Stars FC beat Excellent Gentlemen FC 3-1, and clinched the third place in the competition.
