90m Nigerians Employed In Music Industry
National President of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Mr Pretty Okafor, says over 90 million Nigerians are employed in the music industry.
Okafor said this at seminar organised by the Rivers State chapter of the association in Port Harcourt.
The seminar has as it theme: “ Entertainment For Development”.
Okafor also said within the last two years more than 15 trillion naira was lost by the country from the sector to global piracy.
He said aside the 15 trillion naira lost by the country each state of the federation also loses 3.7 trillion to piracy.
Okafor decried the low investment in the music industry by the government, adding that the situation has made the country to lose revenue running into trillions of naira.
Also speaking the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Friday Eboka, urged musicians to use their talent to promote unity and and national cohesion
Eboka, who was represented by the divisional police officer old G.R.A
Port Harcourt CSP, George Opareka, said music’s must have content that promote peace and national unity
The commissioner also warned the youth against being used to destabilise the society and enjoined up coming artistes to build their music on the unity of the country.
Also speaking, Chief Anab Sara-Igbe said music should be used to remind people in government of their promise to the people.
He also said Artistes should use their work to condemn humanright abuses in the society.
Sara-Igbe decried the deplorable condition of oil producing communities, adding that those in power should be held responsible for not giving adequate attention to the development of oil producing communities.
