Court Remands Man For Raping Teenage Maid
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sent one Chigozie Ajie who was accused of engaging in serial sexual violation and procurement of abortion for his 13-year-old house help to prison.
The suspect, Ajie was arraigned on three counts charges of threats to life, abortion, and rape.
But Chief Magistrate R. N. Ibinabo declined to proceed with the suit as he noted that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the accusation of threat to life, which he noted, carries life imprisonment as punishment.
He, however, adjourned the matter to January 25, 2022, with the order that the case file should be transferred to DPP for legal advice.
The Tide reports that the suspect, Ajie, who is a native of Ogbogu in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, has been on the run since he was reported to the police over alleged series of sexual violation of his house help.
His arraignment followed his arrest by the police last week after evading police arrest severally.
In the meantime, lawyer to the family, Mayor Ohia, in an interview said his clients are pained over the treatment of their daughter by the accused.
An uncle to the victim, Victor Anuku, explained that the family joined the police in efforts to get him arrested.
Anuku said the suspect impregnated the girl at the age of 13, and aborted the pregnancy in an undisclosed hospital.
He said it took the police nine months and some weeks before he was arrested after he reported the case to Obite Police Station in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA.
He added that the suspect also accused the family of being kidnappers when the issue came up.
