Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United, have been eliminated from the competition after losing 1-0 to the Sudanese Club Al Hilal, at the Suez Canal Stadium on Sunday evening.
Rivers United was held to a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg, and a 1-0 defeat in the second leg played in Egypt on Sunday, means they are out of the tournament.
The Pride of Rivers lost 2-1 on aggregate and they dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup, while Al Hilal advanced to the Group phase of CAF Champions League.
Rivers United will now compete in the play-off round of the CAF Confederation Cup following their ouster of the competition.
They will now join Enyimba in the CAF Confederation Cup after the People’s Elephant destroyed Diambars FC of Senegal 4-0 on aggregate.
After winning the first leg 1-0 last weekend, Enyimba hosted the Senegalese in Aba and recorded an outstanding 3-0 to seal passage to the next round.
Both sides will hope to avoid reach each other in the final preliminary stages of the competition.
