LG: Performance’ll Determine Chairmen’s Second Term Ticket – Akawor
The Rivers State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Ambassador Desmond Akawor, says for any local government chairman to get the party’s ticket for a second term he must show a record of performance.
He gave the hint when he unveiled the ASALGA Shellfish Food Market built by the Chairman of Asari -Toru Local Government Area, Onengiofori George, on Monday, in Buguma.
Akawor said, “ Nowadays, you will perform, you will come back. It’s instructive because leadership is ability to govern your people well.”
According to him, so far, the current LGA chairmen are doing well, considering the fact that many have embarked on developmental projects in their first 100 days in office.
The PDP chairman urged them not to rest on their oars after their 100 days in office, but to sustain the tempo on which they started.
On his part, the local government chairman, Onengiofori George, said the fish market was built to serve as a sign post for the abundant resources in the area, and to provide employment and revenue for the women and the local government council.
He recalled that what they had initially was a makeshift site where women hawked fish and other sea foods, noting that the council found it strategic to build the market since it serves as a key commercial centre.
