Coach Solicits For Grassroots Football Sponsorship
The Head Coach of Rocks FC of Port Harcourt, Ndubuisi Emmanuel, has appealed to the Rivers State Government and Non-Governmental Organi-sations (NGOs), in the state to sponsor grassroots football tournaments in the state.
He stated that it was time for both government and NGOs to give more attention to grassroots football competitions, saying that it is a way to give youth opportunity to showcase their talents.
Emmanuel made the appeal on Tuesday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, shortly after his boys (players) defeated Port Harcourt City Football Academy, (PHCA) 1-0, in their last group game at the ongoing Port Harcourt City League (PHCL) at the Joseph Yobo mini stadium in D/Line in Port Harcourt.
According to him, grassroots football has a lot of challenges, most especially when it comes to sponsorship in terms of grassroots tournament.
‘ Government and NGO should focus on the youth teams than the professional clubs.
“It is not really a good one at the grassroots, they are a lot of talents there but they are not given the opportunity to prove themselves,” Emmanuel said.
The coach praised his boys for the victory and playing to instructions.
“They were focused, I think they really gave out their best,” he stated.
He used the opportunity to commend the organisers of the PHCL, saying that the competition is bringing back the face of Port Harcourt in football as it used to be.
