Rivers State Government has pledged to encourage and sustain any youth sports competition and programme in the state.
The Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on School Sports, Chief Aribitonye Okiri, said this while watching one of the games at the ongoing The Future of Naija Youth Basketball Festival, organised by DA-F basketball programme, in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
He stated that government will continue to create a peaceful and enabling environment for sporting activities to take place.
According to him, such youth programme is what the Governor is fascinated about because it helps to engage the youths meaningfully and take them out of the creeks.
“As a government, we will continue to encourage and sustain such youth programmes. This is the type of programme His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike, the Pillar of Sports in Africa is fascinated about.
“Apart from that, we will also create an enabling environment and condition for sporting activities at all times, as the state is peaceful,” Okiri said.
The special adviser commended the organisers and all those that are behind the successful organisation of the programme, saying that the competition has discovered some talents that can represent the state and country.
