WAPA Move To Partner Women Focused NGOs

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAID), has further strengthened its alliance with 200 representatives from various women-focused NGOs across Lagos State, as means of alleviating the economic plight of its women residents.
Speaking at an interactive session, themed, ‘NGO sustainability for Women empowerment,” held in Lagos, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs . Cecila Bolaji Dada, reiterated WAPA ‘s commitment to grooming female entrepreneurs, that contribute to the economy.
Dada said,” this forum affords us an opportunity to dialogue and foster mutual understanding towards an impactful life. In every success story of a tree’s development, the grassroots must have been well nurtured, using harnessed resources like water and rich soil. WAPA is the rich soil for identifying vulnerabilities of our women and how best to support them.”
While reassuring on the commitment of the State Government to support the downtrodden, the commissioner stated”, the economic situation encountered nationwide, has a number of women facing various nerve breaking challenges.
“Most of the experiences are gruesome to relate, some even worse.We have however, identified the agenda , under Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, as a driving force of development , for enhanced productivity within the State.
“ The target of this administration through the ministry of women affairs and poverty alleviation is to ensure that all women residents are economically independent.
“This is why our target, using both the short-term and long – term skills acquisition programmes, will continue to thrive as a tool of change, which contributes to the economic development of women entrepreneurs.”
In her address, the Permanent Secretary, WAPA; Mrs Oluyemi Kalesanwo, explained that the Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu walks the talk by personally taking up activities that ensured well – being of both the underserved and underprivileged in Lagos State with a view to freeing women from the shackles of poverty.
She reiterated, “I want to thank the Governor of Lagos State for his belief in the collaborative governance through WAPA, in touching lives.
