UNIPORT Disowns Fake Facebook Account On New VC
The authorities of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State have disowned an online media report seeking for financial support for the inauguration of the newly elected Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Owunari Abraham Georgewill.
The institution, in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Sam Kpenu and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said the online media report and account did not originate from the institution and should be ignored and disregarded by all.
“The attention of the Management of the University of Port Harcourt, has again been drawn to a fake Facebook account opened with the name of the incoming Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill by unknown criminally-minded person(s). The fake Facebook account is sending messages to close friends/associates of the vice chancellor, requesting individuals to either pay certain amount of money in form of financial assistance in tune of hundreds of thousands ahead of his inauguration into office.
“The University of Port Harcourt hereby dissociates itself and the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill from the fake Facebook account.”
The statement further urged members of the public to keep away from the fraudsters and their fake Facebook account as the incoming vice chancellor did not authorise such fraudulent request, adding that “those involved in the unwholesome practice should be aware that the long arm of the law is stretching in their direction, and it will soon catch up with you.”
