Oscars Appoints Ramsey Nouah, Mo Abudu, Dosumu As Members
The Academy for Motion Pictures of Arts and Science or Oscars for short has once again turned the spotlight on Nigeria and its massive movie industry known globally as Nollywood. The Academy has extended an invitation to three notable motion picture practitioners of Nigerian descent to be part of the Academy which includes being a major part of deciding nominees and winners of the Oscars.
They include one of Nigeria’s best known actors, Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah Jnr, the busy motion picture producer, Mo Abudu and Nigerian born, but United state based photographer and director, Andrew Dosumu who are among the 395 new members admitted into the Academy class 2021.
Abudu, Ramsey and Dosumu will join fellow compatriots like actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Nigerian born British actress, Wunmi Mosaku, filmmaker, Femi Odugbemi, British Nigerian film director Ngozi Onwurah, Veteran filmmaker, Tunde Kelani, Actress Genevieve Nnaji, and movie director, actor and writer Akin Omotoso, as well as British actress and singer, Cynthia Onyedinmanasu China Saokwu Erivo who was appointed Academy members in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The appointment of filmmakers around the world started in 2015 and it followed the determination of the Academy to swell and double the number of women and people of colour in its membership by 2020.
The Nigerian moviedom salutes Abudu, Ramsey and Dosumu whose membership of the Academy represent a new career height and recognition of their immensence talent and outstanding abilities as motion picture practitioners.
