NPFL: There Is Still Hope For Title – Rivers United’s Defender
Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt defender, Bamba Bakary, says despite their draw against Akwa United in the Match day 33 of the Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL ) last Sunday, there is still hope for the team.
He pointed out that, playing draw was not a bad result in football game, adding that, the league is still open for the Pride of Rivers to top the table.
Bamba, who scored the equalising goal on Sunday, made the assertion in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, shortly after Rivers United played a 1-1 draw with Akwa United FC in the week 33 fixtures of the ongoing NPFL, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
He expressed joy, for scoring the equalising goal, but explained that, he felt bad for dropping points at home.
“ I am happy because I scored a goal today but feel bad for dropping points at home.
The league is still on, it is not over yet.
We still have hope of winning the league title, “Bamba said.
The visitors recorded the lead in the 53rd minute of the second half by Charles Atshimene, after he capitalised on defending mix-up by Rivers United defender, but Bamba levelled it in the 87th minute of the game.
The defender explained that, they put in their best to secure the three points, that should have kept them closer to the top of the table, but it didn’t work out, adding that, they are still going to do their best to get good results in the other remaining matches of the season.
“Today, we tried to ensure we win to get closer to the table topper, but it didn’t work out,” he stated.
United is now 5th on the log with 56 points after playing 33 matches in this season.
