Incessant Flooding Of Mile 1 Market Worries Traders

Some traders at the popular Mile 1 Market in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State have decried the perrenial flooding of the market during rainfall. Some of the traders who spoke to The Tide also called on the government to look for ways of channeling the water out of the market.
They complained that the situation is affecting their businesses, adding that it has also made the market to be unhygienic. 
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Cyprain Chima said that the market is always closed during rainfall. He stressed the need for the Port Harcourt Local Government to come to the aid of traders by ensuring regular cleaning of the drainages for easy flow of water. 
He further stated that the traders will continue to play their parts by ensuring that the market is clean at all times.
Also speaking, Madam Nneoma Celestine blamed the incessant flooding of the market on the attitude of some of the traders who discriminately dump refuse into the drainage, adding that such attitude must stop. She, however, commended some of the traders for regular cleaning of their shops.
Another trader, Mr. Kelvin Martins said the Thursday  regular cleaning  exercise has helped to improve the hygienic condition of the market . He stressed the need for the government to create special refuse dump in the area to avoid indiscriminate littering of the market.
