Eid-el-Kabir: Police Mobilise 3,532 Officers In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command says a total of 3,532 of its personnel have been deployed to work and complement deployments from other sister security agencies to ensure a hitch-free Eid celebration and crime-free state during the period.
To achieve this lofty goal, the command has announced that there would be both foot and vehicular patrols, including marine surveillance and patrols on the waterways, adding that security has also been beefed up at all entry and exit points.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni in Port Harcourt, yesterday, and made available to The Tide, said the state Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has on behalf of officers and men of the command, felicitatedd with all Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.
The statement further stated that the commissioner of police also use the medium to assure Muslims faithful in the state and other residents of the state of their safety as he has emplaced adequate security measures to ensure they enjoy their celebration in a very conducive atmosphere.
According to the statement, the CP made the declaration during his briefing with DPOs/HODs and Area Commanders at the headquarters of the command in Port Harcourt, last Monday, adding that the CP assured to sustain the existing security measures put in place in the state since the launch of “Operation Restore Peace” in the South-South Zone by the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
“In his charge to the DPOs/HODs and Area Commanders, the CP emphatically directed them to maintain law and order throughout the period of the celebration. They are further directed to patrol and maintain static guards at designated routes and strategic locations. To embark on visibility policing and ensure that the presence of the police is felt by all and sundry.
“They have equally been directed to focus more on critical government infrastructure, vulnerable and key points, including banks, fun centres, Mosque and other worship centres.
“He is assuring the residents of the state that the relative peace being enjoyed in the state will be sustained. He, however, appeals to the public to cooperate with the police by sharing actionable and credible information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of all criminal elements in the state, especially those that may want to foment trouble during the celebrations”, the statement added.
