A political stalwart and advocate of women liberation in Rivers, Hon. Okorite Adiele, has stated that women have more space in governance under the administration of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike than any previous administration in Rivers State.
Adiele, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Degema Local Government Area stated this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, on the sideline of the celebration  of the 54th anniversary of the creation of Rivers State.
“Governor Wike is the most women friendly Governor who has through his strategic vision and policy of inclusiveness and accommodation incorporated women in the main stream of political governance”, she said.
Apart from having a woman as the Deputy Governor, she applauded the Rivers State Governor for creating opportunities for women to serve as Vice Chairmen in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
She dismissed the concept that women were better disposed only at the home front, and stated that women had distinguished themselves in their chosen careers, including politics and as such should be given more chances to showcase their inherent talents in driving the polity.
She said, “ I believe strongly that women are endowed with the virtues and grace that can propel effective governance in our society. As mothers,  women have the right appeal and fervency to quell the tensions and  vicissitudes of life.
“Our society today needs the input of women to address the emerging challenges.
“What the Rivers State Governor has done is highly commendable because it has averted the tendencies of abridgement of the chances of women participation in a male dominated political system. Presently, we have a serving female Senator from Rivers State who is doing exceedingly well in the National Assembly. We need more women in leadership positions”.
She urged women in Rivers State not to shy away from their responsibilities, especially in injecting their resourcefulness into the process of governance, and also charged them to talk to their children to shun social vices.
