RSU Plans Anti – Drug Abuse Club

The authorities of the Rivers State University have approved the establishment of anti-drug abuse club in the university.
  Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Nlerum Okogbule, said the approval will check all incidences of drug abuse in the institution.
  Okogbule, who spoke during the international World Drug Day 2021 celebration jointly organised by the university and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), said the university will continue to sensitise the students on the dangers of drug abuse.
  The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Nnamdi Okoroma, said the university will work to completely eradicate drug abuse within its campuses.
He also regretted that most students were victims of drug abuse and urged them to avoid things that will cut short their educational career.
  Also speaking, State Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Mr Chima Ogbu, said the event was to create awareness on the dangers of drug abuse.
   Ogbu said the decision to choose the university for the symposium was to reach out to young people as there are evidences that young people were prone to drug abuse while stressing that drug abuse, also cut across all age brackets,he charged them to avoid contact with all forms of illicit drugs.
   Also speaking, the Director of Health, Rivers State University, Dr Dagogo Cookey Gam, said drug abuse had been known to cause more harm than the Covid-19 pandemic.
  He said the event was to raise the consciousness of the students as other members of the university community on the dangers of drug abuse.
