Rivers United’s Captain Hopeful For Continental Ticket
The captain of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Festus Austin, has reiterated that his team is still in contention to get one of the continental tickets this season.
He stated that United’s 2-0 win against highly rated Kano Pillars, on Wednesday, after four straight draws served as a morale booster.
Austin said this in a telephone interview with Tidesports, on Wednesday shortly after the game, at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, in Port Harcourt.
He explained that the league was still open for any club to win the title as it is now; consequently, his players have expressed commitment and determination to ensure that they won the League title.
“We are very happy that we won. This has boosted the morale of my players, honestly we were not happy after we played four draws, though it was not so bad a result,” Austin said.
According to him, his players have agreed to approach the remaining games differently and put in more virgo.
“We have few matches to the end of the season; we have agreed that we are going to approach the remaining games differently. We are going to put in more effort to ensure we do not drop points in any match,” he stated.
The skipper used the forum to thank the governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike, for providing funds and supporting the team morally.
