Rivers Set To Host U-21 Hockey Championship
Port Harcourt, the Capital City of Rivers State, is set to hold the forthcoming Under-21 male and female National Hockey Championship scheduled to commence next week.
The tournament is expected to last for one week at Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with Tidesports on telephone, yesterday, the Chief Coach of RIvers State hockey team, Ifeanyi Collins, said his players were currently in camp for early preparation.
According to him, about 55 players are in camp, both male and female, adding that the early preparation is to ensure that they defended their title.
“The tournament is scheduled to commence on the 19th, this month, and it will last for one week.
We have been in camp for almost two weeks now, our early preparation was because we want to win, besides, we are the defending champions both in male and female categories. We are limited to winning,” Collins said.
The coach explained that the camping was not sponsored by Rivers State government, saying that it was put together by hockey veterans.
“You need to know this fact, Rivers State government is not the one sponsoring this camping. It was put together by hockey veterans.
I use this opportunity to appeal to the State government to do the needful,” he stated.
