PASAN Calls Off Two-Month-Old Strike

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has suspended its two months strike over financial autonomy for the Legislative arm of government.
The Chairman of PASAN in Rivers State, Comrade Comfort Opune, in a chat with newsmen at the weekend, said the suspension was due to the intervention of its national body.
Opune said the suspension was for 45 days effective from Tuesday.
She said the strike will continue if the memorandum signed between the union and relevant Stakeholders concerning the financial autonomy is not met within 45 days.
The PASAN chairman, however, called on its worker in the state to resume work on Tuesday.
With the suspension of the strike it was expected that lawmakers in the state would resume legislative proceedings.
It would be recalled that last week, the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had threatened that government will enforce “no work, no pay”, policy if the strike persists.
The governor said the state government has already begun implementation of the Judiciary and Legislative autonomy, and wondered why both Judiciary and Legislative workers will continue strike.
