NURSS To Provide Text Books, Water To Varsity Students
The National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), has earmarked the sums of N500,000 and N300,000 respectively for the provision of text books, other educational materials and provision of free sustainable potable water for the students of the university.
The Grand Commander, Rivers State Students and NURSS president of the university, Iyo Israel Atarunotekeari said this at the induction ceremony of fresh students of the university.
He said the union war also working out a plan to care for vulnerable students of the university.
According to him, “About fifty (50) students of Rivers State in IAUE are physically challenged and at the moment ten (10) students of Rivers State in IAUE have come crying to us that they are at the verge of losing their stay in school on the ground of gross financial ineptitude,” he said.
He said the ceremony was an event seeking to adopt, adjust and prepare the minds of our indigenous freshers into the tenet and requirements of their respective stay in the university.
Also speaking, one of the facilitators of the programme, Mr Nnamdi Bestman urged the students to pursue excellence in their educational endeavour.
Bestman also urged them to take their studies seriously, adding that they must read their books and be regular in class.
He urged them to see education as a way to success, stressing that education affects aspects of society.
Also speaking, Mr Harry Enoch of Global and Environmental Initiative also called on the new students to pursue excellence in their academic career.
According to him, they must think of what they want to be in life.
Also speaking, Dr Tambari Gbeneol urged the students to take their studies seriously.
Dr Gbeneol said the students should focus on things that brought them to the university and avoid things that will bring shame to their families, and also commended the union for the regular orientation programme for students.
High point of the event was the presentation of awards to some personalities, including Chief ThankGod Mark, Kadilo .B. Kabari, Dr Tombari Gbeneol, Comrade Leton D. Ndoo and Comrade Bestman Nelson Nnadi as well as Comrade Uebari Evans.
The event also featured the unveiling of NURSS 2021 project.
