NIMASA Restates Commitment To Assist Natural Disasters’ Victims

The  Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, has reaffirmed its commitment to  render assistance to victims of natural disasters living in different camps  across the country. 
Jamoh made this known  while presenting food and other relief materials to the representatives of the victims in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa recently.
The DG who was represented by the   Deputy Director, Procurement, Mr. Otonye Obom presented the relief materials to the representatives of the victims  for  distribution to the flood victims and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Abua/Odual, Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Areas of the Rivers State and some affected Local Government Areas in Bayelsa State.
 ”This is part of the nation-wide donation of diverse forms of relief materials to people displaced as a result of the 2020 flood disaster that submerged some parts of the State and some other states across the country, this is a continuation of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives which has taken place in some States and is still on going”, he said.
The NIMASA boss noted that it was  important for Rivers and Bayelsa States to be beneficiaries of the gesture, because both states were among the states affected by  flood in 2020.
He also urged the beneficiaries  to make   judicious use of  the items in order to actualise its aim.
“We are here as a corporate organization to comply with the Federal Government’s directives for all government organisations to use their powers and resources to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians affected by flood and other disasters”, he said.
He further  called on other corporate bodies to partner with the agency in the initiatives,  in order to  support the Federal Government’s drive in advancing gestures that impact lives positively and meaningfully in the country.
The reprentatives, Barr Awori Miller and Hon. Seibarogu Werinipre , in their responses, commended the efforts of the agency and  stated  the importance and timeliness of the gesture. 
According to them, the Federal Government was doing its best within its powers to ensure  welfare and security of the people.
“The victims are ever grateful by this kind gesture and would not be forgotten in a hurry and called on other government agencies and corporate organisations   to emulate the footsteps of NIMASA by coming to the aid of the Internally Displaced Persons”, they said.
 They also assured  of  judicious use of the items by the beneficiaries and ensure that it alleviate, their suffering.
The Tide learnt that bags of  rice, tubers of yam, mattresses, sugar, salt, Dettol, Beans, Noodles, Soap/ Detergents, sanitary pads, dippers, mats, blankets, mosquito nets dairy foods, palm/vegetable oil, grinding machines, pumping and sewing machines were among the items donated.
It would be recalled  that the Federal Government has consistently encouraged interested philanthropists and non-governmental organisations to partner with government in order to adequately cater for the needs of Nigerians who are affected by one form of disaster or another. 
The NIMASA  gesture, is part of  its Corporate Social Responsibility as required by law.
