The Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN), has called on rival cult groups in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State to lay down their arms in the interest of the peace and development of the area.
CAN Coordinator in Andoni Local Government Area, Rt. Rev. James Egbe said this shortly after the inauguration of the Andoni chapter of the association in Port Harcourt.
Egbe said the continuous killings of innocent people and destruction of communities under the guise of cultism is not in the best interest of Andoni, adding that all rival cult groups should come out and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, “they should lay down their arms and embrace peace,” he said.
According to him, the new CAN executive will work with the Andoni traditional rulers council, the youths and women groups with the view to promoting peace across Andoni.
Egbe also said all churches and organisations will be mobilised to propagate the work of God in the land.
“The message is that everyone should allow peace to reign. All rival cult groups should come and accept Christ as Lord and Saviour,” he said.
He commended the state chapter of the association for the confidence reposed on his team, pledging not to disappoint.
Earlier, the state Secretary of CAN, Bishop Emma Ogu charged the new executive to pursue a programme of unification of all Christian groups in Andoni.
“There is strength in unity. It makes a group to achieve a common purpose”.
Ogu said all forces of disstabilisation operating in Andoni will be defeated, if Christians in the area work together for a common purpose.
“Andoni CAN has to be one. You must follow the example of our lord Jesus Christ and his disciples who were united
“There is power in unity. It is the only way for CAN to achieve its purpose in Andoni Local Government Area” he said.
Those inaugurated are Dr James Egbe, Coordinator, Supervising Apostle Andrew Iboroma Treasurer, Rev. David A. Jackson, Secretary and Rev. Father Valentine Azike ,Asst. Coordinator.
