Rivers United Hopes To Receive Gov’s  N10m Pledge

Players of Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt are in jubilation since Sunday as they beat Rangers FC of Enugu 1-0 at Nnmadi Azikiwe Stadium.
The celebration was at the instance of the promise made by the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, to all state government-owned teams, which says that any team that win away game will be given a cash reward of N10M.
Speaking to some of the players shortly after the victory, on Monday, via telephone interview, they said quick redemption of the pledge will actually boost the morale of the players.
According to one of the players who pleaded anonymous said he has no doubt that the Governor will in no distance time fulfill his promise, adding that the governor does not delay on his promises made, especially it comes to sports related matters.
“You can see that all the players are happy now. Everybody knows Rangers is a strong team and it not easy to run away with three solid points from there” he said.
Also, speaking the Captain of the team Festus Austin expressed confidence that his team will still pick one of the continental tickets this season.
He explained his players have shown more commitment and determined to make the State proud.
He pledged that any money government spent on the club would be reciprocated by winning trophies.
“As the captain of the club I have seen that my players are committed and determined to also make a statement this season.
We will make sure that we reciprocate on any money government spent on us.
Austin used the forum to thank the sports loving governor for his support and encouragement over the years.
