NPFL : Rivers Utd Rekindles Title Hopes
Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt at the weekend inside the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt rekindled hopes of possible positive end to the season and an effective shot at the title and continental ticket for next season after edging neighbours, Enyimba International in a rescheduled Day 11 game of the 2021 Nigeria Professional Football League season. It was a tight and keenly contested affair, as always, but the Pride of Rivers eventually overcame with a late strike.
Afterwards, the Technical Manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, applauded his players over their performance in the encounter, regarded as one of the toughest games for the team but with an impressive performance from the players.
Eguma lavished encomiums on his wards in a post match interview with sports journalists at the stadium moments after the final whistle.
According to him, the victory was a morale booster for his players and the team, adding that, it was very important because they succeeded in adding three more points to their first round points haul of the season.
“ We have moved some steps forward on the log, It was a good win for us because it will motivate the players that there is still hope for tomorrow,” Eguma stated.
The only goal of the match came in the 85th minutes in the second half of the game when Sunday Adetunji, powered home a header off a cross from wingback, Kazie Enyinnaya.
Eguma went on to describe the match as very tough, saying that, Enyimba FC was not a pushover as far as NPFL is concerned.
As for the goal scorer, Eguma said he has proved himself to be a utility player with experience.
Also speaking, the Head Coach of Enyimba FC, Fatai Osho, attributed his side’s loss to the poor nature of the pitch.
