Worried by the growing rate of unemployment in Rivers State, a youth body under the aegis of Community Reformed Youth (CRY), says it will soon embark on data collation of unemployed youths in the state in a bid to providing solution to it.
The National Coordinator of the group, Engr. Gogo Wenike briggs, gave the hint while addressing some members of the group in Port Harcourt, recently.
He said that the data collation would aid the group to ascertain the number of unemployed youths in the state to enable it properly present their case before the government.
The group leader pointed out that unemployment was part of the major cause of restiveness and related offences among the youths.
Using Bonny as a case study, he said that the relative peace enjoyed in the area was as a result of employment opportunities available for the young people.
Wenike briggs informed the group members that plans were underway to sensitise the youth on how best to use their time rather than engaging in frivolities.
According to him, there will be efforts to meet with government at all levels to brainstorm on how to site industries in all the communities in the state.
This, he explained, would  involve the services of professionals whom he said will provide the needed advice.
“We will soon get data of the unemployed in the state, local government by local government.
“Professionals will also be involved to advice on how to establish industries for the communities”, he said.
He disclosed that by July this year, the group would establish ward coordinators that will aid in fasttracking the data collation process.
The idea behind the move according to him, was to disabuse the mind of the youths from politics with a view to making them better members of the society.
