The Forum of Community Development Committees in Rivers State has called for support to the Rivers State Neighourhood Safety Corps Agency and other security agencies in the state to stem the rising level of criminality in the state.
Co-ordinator of the forum, Mr John Onwubualili, who said this in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt also called on community leaders in the State to support government in the on-going fight against insecurity in the state.
Onwubualili, who recently emerged National Co-ordinator of United Community Development Chairmen in Nigeria, said the fight against insecurity needed the support of all and sundry.
He commended the State government and the security agencies for being proactive on handling this global menace called insecurity.
According to him, the effort of the security agencies and the state government should be encouraged and supported by community leaders in the state.
“We can truly attest that, the Rivers State Government and security agencies operating in Rivers State are proactive in handling this global challenge called insecurity.
“Their effort should be encouraged and supported by us, the community leaders in the state.
“On this note let us therefore, embrace the New Rivers State security outfit, which has a lot to do with our communities. Looking at the condition of this country, security should be our collective responsibility. We are expected to work with the personnel of the State Neighourhood Watch posted to our local government areas and communities,” he said.
He also said good policies of government should be supported.
“As community leaders, it is our responsibility to support every good policy of the State and Federal governments in all ramifications, in our community meetings, let us ensure that we talked to our people to embrace peace and shun every form of criminality. Mostly, our youths should be well advised in this regard,” Onwubualili said.
