The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mohammed Aliyu, has charged all personnel of the Command to remain resolute and resilient in the quest to root out unrepentant criminal elements and their activities, as well as actualising in the State mandates of the newly flagged-off “Operation Restore Peace” (RP) for the South East, by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
CP Aliyu, however, appreciated security stakeholders in the State, including the Neighbourhood Watch Group and law-abiding citizens, whose supports to the Police led to the successful arrest of three (3) criminal suspects for their alleged involvement in offences of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Their arrest, according to the statement issued in Enugu by the command’s PPRO, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, led to the recovery of three (3) firearms, one (1) live cartridge, two (2) motor vehicles, two (2) daggers, one (1) mobile Phone and other incriminating items.
He said that Operatives of the Command attached to Abakaliki Road Division on 17/05/2021, arrested in Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi State, one Chidiebere Okoye aged 22 and Ede Ifeanyi aged 25, both of Onuasata, Enugu, adding that their arrest also led to the recovery of one (1) locally-made pistol, one (1) dagger and an ash-coloured Toyota Camry car with registration number: GGE 547 GT, which the duo and gang members now at large, allegedly snatched from their victim at gunpoint on 10/05/2021.
The suspects have already confessed to the crime, while discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang, the statement added.
“Similarly, Police Operatives attached to Nsukka Urban Division in synergy with Neighbourhood Watch Group, on 13/05/2021 about 2356hrs, intercepted a red-coloured Toyota Avenus car with Reg. No. XFST 968 AA, suspected to have been stolen, along Urban Girls High Road, Nsukka.
“The suspected criminal occupants on sighting the Operatives abandoned the vehicle and escaped. Upon thorough search of the recovered vehicle, two (2) cut-to-size single-barreled guns, one (1) live cartridge, one (1) TECNO Phone and other incriminating items were further recovered”, pointing out that discreet investigation is ongoing to fish out the fleeing criminals’ suspects.
While assuring that all the suspects would be duly prosecuted in court on conclusion of investigation, CP Aliyu further appealed to the peace-loving people of the State to continue supporting the Police by remaining law-abiding, vigilant and promptly reporting suspected criminals and acts of criminality to the nearest Police Station.
