Police Operatives attached to New Haven Police Division of Enugu State Command, have arrested along Chime Avenue, Enugu, one Chukwudi Chukwu aged  25, from Nwofe Village in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State over his alleged involvement in fraudulent swapping a victim’s ATM UBA card after offering to assist her process transaction on another bank’s ATM.
According to a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu by the PPRO, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, his arrest also led to the recovery of a yellow-coloured Bajaj Tricycle with registration number: ENU 677 WW, which he and  other members of his gang used for the operation, including nine (9) ATM cards of different banks.
ASP Ndukwe maintained that the suspect, whose arrest was due to a swift response to a distress call and his rescue from an angry mob by the Operatives, had the intention of defrauding the victim of her hard earned money.
Ndukwe revealed that the suspect had already confessed to the crime as well as being a member of the syndicate that specialised in unsus-pectingly swapping ATM cards of their victims at banks’ ATMs with non-functional Cards, which they use to fraudulently obtain funds from their accounts.
Meanwhile, intense discreet investigation, he went on, is ongoing to arrest and bring to book, other members of the criminal syndicate, including the suspect’s accomplices who escaped on the day of his arrest.
Ndukwe further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has applauded the peace-loving citizens of the State for their assistance in the fight against criminals and their activities.
The Enugu State Police boss, the statement added, has however, pleaded with all and sundry to quickly submit arrested criminals to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution, rather than indulging in mob actions that are tantamount to jungle justice.
