Over 470 Editors Begin Training On Covid-19, Today

No fewer than 450 Editors across the country will today begin an intensive six-day training programme organised by the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (NAPHARM) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to walk Editors through the facts and myths of Covid-19, while proffering the way forward.
The training opportunity, with the theme, “Covid-19: Facts, Myths And Way Forward”, will commence at 10:00AM West Central Africa Time, via ZOOM.
A programme of events made available to The Tide, indicates that today’s session will focus on the subtheme, “Covid-19 Pandemic: Facts And Myths”, with the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire presiding as chairman of the occasion while the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu acting as keynote speaker, just as Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi will deliver a paper titled, “Pharmacy and Media Cooperation for the Nation”.
The programme of activities shows that Prof. Moses Akanmu will act as moderator while past president of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Ahmed I. Yakasai; will lead panel discussion.
The Tide learnt that Dr. Lolu Ojo of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy, and Mr. Azubuike Ishiekwene of the Nigeria Guild of Editors will anchor the Day 1 events, while Chima Agnelius Ogbu, and Kayode Ayegbajeje will serve as recorders.
A critical look at the programme of activities shows that Day 2 will see the Editors navigate the “Role of the Media in the Management of Covid-19 Pandemic”, on Tuesday, with the former director general, NTA and chief executive officer, National Orientation Agency, Prof Tonnie Iredia presiding as chairman, just as Media Consultant, Dr Reuben Abati will be keynote speaker.
The panel discussants include Kingsley Uranta of Channels TV; Dotun Oladipo of EagleOnline; Max Amuchie of Sundiata Post; and Danlami Nmodu of Newsdiaryonline.
The programme of events also show that Day 3 will witness a presentation on the “Role of Professionals, Research Institutes and Universities in the Management of Covid-19 Pandemic”, presided over by the ED/CEO, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu as chairman; the Vice Chancellor, Chrisland University, Prof Chinedum Babalola, will be keynote speaker.
The panel discussion will be led by Past President, PSN, Olumide Akintayo; while Prof Cyril Usifoh will manage the summary and conclusions arrived at the day’s event, with the NGE President, Isah Mustapha, delivering the vote of thanks.
On Day 4, the Editors will be taken through issues around “Drug Use and Misuse During the Pandemic”, with Borno State Commissioner for Health, Prof Isa Hussaini serving as chairman, and Prof Ike Uzochukwu of UNIZIK, Awka as keynote speaker.
The panel discussion will be driven by Chairman, BOF, Prof Mbang Femi-Oyewo; while the summary and conclusions will be presented by Prof Oluwatoyin Odeku.
