The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege; wife of former President, Dame Patience Jonathan, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs under President Goodluck Jonathan, Godwin Orubebe; are among the dignitaries that, yesterday, honoured the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, at the presentation of her book, “Aisha Buhari: Being Different.”
The book, authored by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Women Affairs, Hajo Sani, was launched at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.
Also present at the event chaired by Tinubu were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III; wife of former Vice President, Hajia Amina Sambo; and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; among others.
Speaking at the event, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said the concerns by some individuals that the Constitution did not recognise the role of First Lady had been “forever laid to rest” by the performance of the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari.
The APC leader, who was the chairman of the occasion, said, “Given the First Lady’s achievements, no one can reasonably question the role of a First Lady any longer.
“Remember there were those who argued that the Constitution does not assign an official role to the First Lady.
“Because of Dr. Aisha Buhari, their concerns have been forever laid to rest.
“The First Lady has played an uplifting, unifying role both in symbol and substance.
“She has been a voice of conscience calling us to be our better selves for the good of the nation and for the betterment of the weakest, most vulnerable among us.
“As such, she has been a strong pillar of support not only to the President but also to the Nigerian people whom they both serve with such patriotic commitment and high purpose.”
Tinubu said role of the First Lady was instrumental to the society and to how a great number of people relate to government.
