Maritime Workers Demand Transparent Leadership In Rivers

Ahead of the forthcoming Maritime Workers Uni-on of Nigeria (MWUN), election in Rivers State, the union is calling for a proactive and transparent leadership to pilot its affairs.
Speaking on the forthcoming election of the union, the chairman of MWUN, Rivers State chapter, Comrade Jonah Jumbo, said the union was desirable of good, capable and transparent leadership to achieve its dreams.
“MWUN needs an intelligent and visionary leader that would fight for the welfare of workers and take the union to the next level in the state,”  he said.
Describing the MWUN election as not a do or die affair, Comrade Jumbo urged members to emulate the recent national election of the body.
According to him, “MW-UN, Rivers chapter, wants peace and unity, we want development and oneness in the union.”
On the spate of sea piracy in the state, Comrade Jumbo lauded the Nigerian Navy, marine police and other sister agencies for their efforts in tackling sea robbers on the waterways.
 He appealed to the security agents to embark on regular patrol of all the creeks and channels to curb all forms of criminal activities on the waterways.
The MWUN chairman admonished boat operators and owners to adhere to the rules and regulations guiding the movement of boats and passengers, especially at night.
Comrade Jumbo warned drivers and passengers to always wear their life jackets before embarking on water journey.
