LG Polls: Wike Tasks Candidates On Performance
In line with electoral guidelines, political campaigns and rallies ended, yesterday, across the state ahead of April 17 Local Council polls.
The Tide monitored some campaign grand finales at Opobo/Nkoro, Port Harcourt and Ohio/Akpor local government areas, as candidates promised new lease of life for the grassroots.
In Opobo/Nkoro, the campaign grand finale took place, last Wednesday at Pembe playground at Opobo Town with the presence of the state PDP Chairman, Amb Desmond Akawor, represented by the party’s Organising Secretary, Mr Offis Kagbang.
Kagbang, who was impressed with the huge turnout of party faithful, said it was very clear that the opposition has no place in the LGA.
While receiving defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro in the House of Representatives, Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante, said Opobo/Nkoro was stronghold of the PDP, as he called on those remaining to make bold and come over to the PDP.
In Obio/Akpor, the campaign rally grand finale went street-to-street, and finally ended at Oginigba Primary School field.
The rally witnessed the presence of the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, represented by his Chief of Staff, Engr. Emeka Woke.
He tasked the PDP chairmanship candidate, Barrister George Ariolu, to ensure he leaves a footprint as chairman.
The governor said the state government has provided enabling environment, hence no chairman has any excuse not to perform.
The grand finale rally for Port Harcourt LGA witnessed street-to-street rally from Old Port Harcourt City down to Rivers State University gate and junction.
