Lawyer Tasks RSG On CCTV At Border Communities
The Rivers State Government has been urged to introduce Circuit Cable Television (CCTV) at border communities in the state in order to check infiltration of criminal elements.
A Port Harcourt based legal practitioner, Emperor Nnaoma Esq, made the call in an exclusive chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Nnaoma, who reacted to the police claim of infiltration of the suspected attackers of the military/paramilitary check points via the border communities at the weekend, said that installation of CCTV at such points would help in tackling the criminal elements.
According to him, manual system of policing is no longer fashionable due to the sophisticated mode of operations by hoodlums across the globe.
“I think for any government to win the war against insecurity, the best way is to opt for digital system of combat. The point is that, criminals have adopted refined ways of launching
He said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) now plays a quintessential role in every sector, stressing that any attempt to downplay it may be counter productive.
Recalling the issue of the Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the #EndSARS protest last year, Nnaoma pointed out that without the aid of the CCTV, tracking the suspects would have been difficult.
He advised that digital policing system should be encouraged by all security outfits in order for the country to be rid of crimes and their perpetrators.
”Those in-charge of the security architecture of the country know the truth. Digital security system is the way forward. How can you put men on the check points without a CCTV to back them up?”, he queried.
Nnaoma expressed hope on the relaunched C4i security system in Rivers State, saying, Governor Nyesom Wike is always proactive in the area of security.
He, however, called on the State Information Department to task itself and come up with the best template on how to curb crimes in the state.
