Kidney Support Foundation Seeks Govt’s Support

The Rekiff Kindney Support Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation in Rivers State has called for the support of government and corporate organisations to enable it meet the increasing number of kidney failure victims in the society.
Speaking, while fielding questions from journalists recently, the founder of the organisation, Mr Charles Awoyemi, said he decided to establish the foundation to assist victims of kidney diseases in their trauma, and difficulties as well as educate them on how to take care of their health challenges.
Awoyemi, a former victim of the dreaded disease, said he had to undergo kidney transplant using the kidney donated by his wife to survive, adding that the foundation carries out sensitisation on kidney diseases to encourage victims of the disease.
He described kidney disease as a more deadly ailment than cancer and HIV, adding that each dialysis carried out on chronic patients of kidney victims is very expensive.
He attributed the genesis of the disease to people’s lifestyle and appealed to Rivers people to avoid drug abuse and unnecessary consumption of unhealthy foods.
He however used this medium to appeal to the three tiers of government to care and support victims of kidney disease to alleviate the economic and financial burden of people with kidney problems in Rivers State.
On his part, the secretary of the foundation, Mr John Chinedu Edeh, who spoke on behalf of the programme co-ordinator, Engr Cyril Ekpe, said that the foundation had through its activities reached out to over thousands of people in different communities in the state.
