Four Die In Black Weekend Killings In PH
Gunmen have reportedly killed four persons in the Okija axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, in what is suspected to be renewed hostilities between rival cult gangs operating in the Rivers State.
The latest confrontation, which occurred, early yesterday, according to sources, allegedly occurred between two dreaded groups, the Icelanders and their Dey-Gbam counterparts.
Residents of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed that, at least, four persons purportedly died of gunshot wounds during the gun duel.
Already, fear is gradually enveloping some of the residents who live within Mile I, Mile II, Mile III and D/Line areas following suspicion of reprisal attacks.
The residents said that they suspect the cult unrest may extend to their otherwise peaceful neighbourhoods, if utmost care was not taken.
They also urged the police and other security operatives to step up efforts in order to nip the spread of further violence in the bud.
The Tide gathered that the police have moved in to restore law and order in the affected areas.
The reason for the clash between the Icelanders and De-Gbam is not yet known, but sources alleged that the latest incident, which is coming on the heel of recent killings in the Old Township area suggests that the cult gangs may be spoiling for violence.
However, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident, as at the time of filing this report.
