Don’t Fall Prey To Visa Fraud, US Warns Nigerians

The US State Department has warned Nigerians against falling prey to a band of syndicates defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned money while pretending to be facilitating the acquisition of a new type of work visas for them in the United States.
The warning comes at the heels of a new wave of fraudulent activities of unscrupulous Nigerians who had issued fake ‘press release’ with the intent to lure desperate individuals with the bait of helping them process work visa applications to the US.
A statement by the US Mission to Nigeria, made available via email to The Tide in Port Harcourt, warned that such claims circulating on the social media were fake, and should be avoided.
The statement reads, “The US Mission to Nigeria is drawing the general public’s attention to a fake ‘press release’ claiming to offer a new type of work visa to Nigerians.
“Scammers and fraudsters circulate this phoney information that the new work visa applies to Nigerian citizens aged 40-55.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate in Lagos is warning Nigerians not to fall victims to the scam.
“It is the same old scam, but in fresh packaging – don’t become a victim!
“If you have questions about whether visa information is legitimate, please refer only to official sources: travel.state.gov, ng.usembassy.gov/visas, and www.ustraveldocs.com/ng,” the statement added.
