Suspected robbers met their waterloo last Sunday night as they were arrested by members of Diobu vigilante, led by the Chief Security Officer of Rumuelechi Street, Godstime Ihunwo.
The vigilante arrested three alleged rapists who attempted to rape a female victim at National/Elechi Street, Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt at the weekend.
Mr Ihunwo, while addressing journalists in his office on Monday in Port Harcourt, said they received a distress call about the  rape and robbery operation by residents of the area and quickly swung into  action that  led his men to the scene of the crime, where they arrested the three suspects while trying to rape the female victim.
According to him, the leader of the three-man robbery gang, who simply gave his name as Chikere, confessed that they were attempting to rape the lady after robbing her before they were caught, and pleaded for forgiveness that he did not want to go to prison.
A source has it that the female victim, who came from Abia state to visit a friend, was full of gratitude to the vigilante members for coming to rescue her
Our correspondent reports that the suspects have been handed over to the Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters at Mile 3, Diobu, where they were later transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
