Chairmanship Candidate Lauds Wike Over Support For Women
The Chairmanship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the forthcoming local government council elections for Bonny Local Government Area, Mrs Banigo Tamunoiyim Chika, has lauded Governor Nyesom Wike for giving women the visibility and platform to showcase their capacity and capability to perform in public office.
Mrs Banigo gave the commendation in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Describing it as the right thing to do, the chairmanship standard bearer praised the governor and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP in Rivers State for the decision to make women as vice chairmanship candidates in the 23 local government areas of the state for the second time running.
“He did the right thing. He really did the right thing by bringing out women. I thank him and I praise him for that”, she said.
On her ambition to become the next chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Mrs Banigo urged the people of the area to vote for her and the ZLP as she represents a new lease of life.
As a woman, she said, she feels the pain of the people and therefore prepared to bring her motherly instincts and disposition to bear in the running of the affairs of the council, adding that the provision of employment opportunities and security of lives and property of the people of the area will receive maximum attention if she is voted into office.
She appealed to the women of the area for support, noting that “men have been there for long. I think my fellow women will know that when a woman is on seat, there must be a great difference. I am assuring them and they should be confident that they will be carried along in the scheme of things”.
Also speaking, a leader of the party in Bonny Local Government Area and Publicity Secretary of ZLP in Rivers State, Mr Preston Hart Prestige said the party decided to float a female candidate because of her good intention to effect a positive change in the administration of the council.
“I feel that if a woman comes into office, she will carry everyone along as a mother. These women understand the challenges and have the capacity to give back to the people”, he said.
