The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has felicitated Christians on the occasion of the 2021 Easter celebration.
The ALGON President, Mr Kolade Alabi, in a statement yesterday, urged Christian faithful to be joyful as the resurrection of Jesus was a joyous event.
He, however, cautioned that the celebrations should be done in strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols laid down by the  relevant authorities.
“No matter the difficulties and challenges,  let us celebrate joyfully and follow the COVID-19 protocols; the resurrection is at the core of the belief of all Christians, without it, the faith professed is meaningless.
“ALGON hereby identifies with you all at this inspiring and uplifting moment in the hope of new life and fresh starts,” he said.
Alabi said that the association would continue to seek better service delivery through democratically elected local government and council officials throughout the country.
The Executive Chairman, Agege Local Government Area, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, also congratulated Christians  in an Easter message to residents of the council.
Egunjobi said he was hopeful that God heard the prayers of the people for continued peace, progress and unity of Lagos State.
“On this significant occasion when Christendom commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind, I send special greetings to the good people of Agege, particularly the Christians.
“I am sure you prayed fervently for our dear council area, the state, the nation and for yourselves during the 40 days fasting, prayers and alms-giving that ushered in this Easter celebration.”
According to him, I advise you all to take cognisance of the preventive measures against the marauding COVID-19 pandemic.
“Most especially, I urge you all to take advantage of the ongoing AstraZeneca vaccine campaign to take the dose and follow other stipulated measures for the council area to be saved from the pandemic,” he said.
Similarly, Mr Emmanuel Bamgboye, the Executive Chairman, Mushin Local Government Area, implored residents to adhere strictly to all the guidelines against contracting coronavirus.
