Abia Warriors Move To Top 10 After 2-1 Victory
Abia Warriors Football Club beat Plateau United 2-1 at the Okigwe Township Stadium on Monday to end 2020-2021 Nigeria Professional Football League first stanza on a good note.
Abia Warriors had a bright start into the game as they took the 6th minute chance through exciting winger Paul Samson.
The winger received a pass from Mustapha Jibreel inside the area, before firing past Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye in goal for Plateau United.
Plateau United restored the parity five minutes later from the penalty spot. Defender Markson Ojobo was penalised for fouling Uche Ochowechi, inside the 6-yard box, and Mustapha Ibrahim could not convert the resulting penalty.
The hosts regained the lead five minutes late when Godwin Obaje tapped into the empty net after Dele Ajiboye failed to deal with an aerial ball.
Plateau United’s woes were compounded a few minutes later when goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye was stretchered off due to injury.
Plateau United pressed for an equaliser in the second half but Abia Warriors held on to their slim advantage until the centre referee blew the whistle to end proceedings.
With this victory, Abia warriors climbed to 10th on the log, while Plateau United remains 12th on the log. Both sides will meet after the mid-season break for the reversed fixture.
