The people of Etche in Etche Local Government Area, have called on the Police Service Commission (PSC), to workout modalities on how to recognize and honour selfless services of men and officers of the Command who devoted time to tackle criminals.
The people who pleaded anonymity, said a certain high-ranking Police Officer in the area, had reduced crime to its barest minimum.
They said that the officer did not stay in the office to dish out commands, but led the team in search of criminal elements.
According them, some dreaded forests in the LGA, which was previously taken over by kidnappers and cultists, has been recovered by the officer who has turned it to his personal ‘home’.
Using the last Saturday LGA elections as a pointer, they said it took the intervention of the top policemen to rescue electoral officers and paramilitary men who were attacked by some suspected cultists on the way.
They hinted that the bus and occupants attacked were those assigned to Umueye, Ward 16 for the just concluded LGA elections.
Feelers from the area, had it that the alleged attack was the in ability of some top politicians in the area to provide logistics for the elections as provided by the Rivers State Government.
They warned against plans under any guise to sabotage the efforts of Governor Nyesom Wike in fight against crime.
They who claimed to be stakeholders, noted that battle against crime did not need paper and pen, but a practical step as demonstrated by the top police officer in Etche.
Listing some achievements of the officer, they recalled the recent rescue of some kidnapped victims who were tied in a certain forest by kidnappers.
They narrated how the officer stormed the forest in a commando style and rescued the victims unharmed.
“Personal recognition of such police officers by the Police Service Commission would bring a positive turn around in the profession”, they said.
It would be recalled that Etche was a beehive of cult related activities before the posting of the officer to the area.
