The authorities of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) say that the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the management of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have provided enough funds for the execution of infrastructure projects for the development of basic education in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB), ,Ven Fyneface Akah stated this when he led other members of the board and management staff of the agency to supervise and inspect some ongoing UBEC 2019 intervention projects within Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas of the state, yesterday.
Akah said the projects being executed were those enlisted in 2019 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in the state, adding that the board decided to visit the projects in order to see how the funds released to the contractors were being spent by the contractors with regards to the laid down standard and specifications of the board.
He threatened that the board would sanction any contractor who fails to deliver the job according to standard and specifications, adding that the board, through its technical department, took time to educate and instruct the contractors doing various projects on its specifications.
According to him, the state government and the UBEC have graciously provided the needed funds, which he said, were lodged in banks for which the contractors have access to enable them deliver on their jobs.
The SUBEB chairman urged the various contractors to stop using their own money in executing the projects but should strive to access the money in the banks, saying that the reason for the slow pace of work witnessed at some project sites was attributed to lack of funds by the contractors.
“We are here in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas as part of our brief of the board to see the level of work done by the contractors because we are at the NEEDS assessment stage.”
