Rivers Contingent Set For Edo 2020, Hopeful Of Good Outing

The Rivers State contingent to the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival, ‘Edo 2020’ is set for the sports fiesta, scheduled for April 2 to 15, 2020 in Benin City, Edo State. In fact, the athletes and officials, who are rounding off the final phase of their camping at the exquisite Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, Igwuruta-Ali, Rivers State are ready for the fiesta to commence and to win medals for the state.
Briefing newsmen on the state of preparedness of the contingent and arrangements for a successful outing at the festival, the State’s Commissioner for Sports, Hon Boma Iyaye said they were not lacking anything, as the Governor has provided all that they needed to excel at Edo 2020. According to him, the state has been participating at the sports festival since its inception in 1973, hosted it twice in 1988 and 2011, winning it as hosts in 2011 and finishing within the top two positions at recent editions. Thus, the contingent is confident of finishing among the top states at Edo 2020.
“Team spirit is very high in the camp, the athletes are well motivated as their welfare is well taken care of and having camped within the best of facilities at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, the athletes enjoyed the camping and are ready to go”, said the Commissioner.
He was full of gratitude to the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, whom he said has done so much for sports development and promotion in the state and provided funds on time for preparation and participation at the sports festival.
