Rivers Celebrates International Adolescent Week
Rivers State will join the rest of the world to mark this year’s World Adolescent Week. The week-long celebration begins on March 21-27 2021.
The Annual International Adolescent Health Week is a week dynamic participatory event to inspire adolescents and their communities to advocate for a successful transition into adulthood.
The theme for this year’s celebration is, “Adolescent Resilience In The Face Of The Pandemic”.
Here in the State, the Rivers State Government through The Working Group (TWG) and stakeholders in the health and other sectors are lining up various activities to sensitive parents and adolescents on the growing dangers of not addressing the problems of adolescents. This includes radio talk shows, road walk and distribution of literature on issues of adolescents.
At a stakeholders meeting hosted at the Ministry of Health Conference Room last Thursday, stakeholders, including religious representatives of the various faiths assured of providing platforms for officials of TWG to aend across messages to adolescents and parents.
The Working Group has also work out arrangements to ensure sustainable information dissemination after the week to ensure that the problems and issues of adolescents are on the front burner of discussions always.
The Rivers State Technical Working Group on Adolescent and Young Person among other things advise the state government, the Ministry of Health and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government on Adolescent and Young People’s Programmes and Policies in the state.
It also serves as a platform for ehancing the implementation of adolescent and young people’s health and development programmes in the state through technical input and advisory support to local government, civil society organisations, international development partners and other stakeholders.
