Nigeria’ll Not Lose To Benin Republic – Rohr
Gernot Rohr is confident his Super Eagles won’t lose to their hosts in this weekend’s 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Porto Novo.
The Squirrels of Benin Republic are unbeaten at home in eight years and their Coach, Michel Dussuyer believes they won’t relinquish the record any time soon.
Rohr won the first meeting between both sides 2-1, at the Nest champions in Uyo back in 2019 and the Franco-German tactician said he was aware Benin Republic will give his side a difficult game at home.
“Everybody wants to beat Nigeria, but nobody could beat us until now in the qualifiers. So, I believe we will not lose there, it’ll be a big challenge to win there, they didn’t lose any game since 8 years.
“ They’re used to playing at home, they have a good ground, they’ll have also, I think, 10,000 people in the stadium (game will be played behind closed doors).
“So, they’ll want to beat Nigeria, it is normal but we also want to win there, it’s a big challenge, they didn’t lose match since 8 years,” he told Tidesports source.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to depart for Benin Republic today via the sea.
The match will be played at Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa has said that the Super Eagles have set his sight on ending Benin Republic’s eight years unbeaten home record, when the sides meet on Saturday.
The Super Eagles will lock horns with the Squirrels at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Saturday, as they aim to seal qualification for the AFCON billed for Cameroon next year.
In a chat with Tidesports source, Musa said they were aware of the host’s incredible home record, but he remained confident the team will get the job done.
“The training was good and thank God we have everyone in the camp now and we are working hard,” the Super Eagles captain said.
“We are going there to win, we understood they have lost at home since 2013, but we are going there to try get a win.
“I know that the boys can do it and I know by the grace of God we will do it,” he told our source.
The Super Eagles have been training at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos, but the team will depart the country for Porto Novo for the match today.
