Meat Production: RSG To Collaborate With FG

The Rivers State Government says it will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on meat production. Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Fred Kpakol made the plans public during the Empowerment and Training of Small Holder Farmers on the best practices for Backyard Goat Production organised by Rivers State Agricultural Development Programme, ADP recently.
Speaking through Dire-ctor, Agriculture in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Maurice Ogolo, the commissioner lauded the ADP for rolling out such programme, also noted that  it is inline with the State Government’s commitment to ensure that the citizens consume healthy meat.
In his words,” a lot has been said about the kind of meat we are consuming. An it will shock you to know the kind of efforts we have made to ensure that people living in the state consume healthy meat.”
The commissioner commended the federal authoriries for selecting Rivers State among the first batch of beneficiaries of the programme, and expressed the readiness of the state to synergise with them to boost agriculture in the state.
On his part Acting Progra-mme Manager, Rivers State ADP, Chief David Dee-Ue thanked the Federal Ministry for recognising and allowing ADP’s statutory roles and functions to bear in this collaborative effort towards sustainable food security in our communities.
Chief  Dee-Ue said the workshop offers amongst other things a milestone in our quest for food security and renewed passion for sustainable family income through livestock farming and noted that the decision to train farmers in this key aspect is Paramount when we consider roles goats play in the socio-economic, environmental and religious life of farming communities, in terms of income and food supply for the local population.
He thanked the governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his renewed passion to raise the bar in agro sector to enhance food sufficiency, assuring to leave no stone unturned the agency succeeds.
Representative of the federal agric ministry, Dr. James Imaji explained that Rivers State is selected amongst the first six states to benefit from the programme on account of its strength and urged trainees to count themselves lucky and described the training as a stepping to becoming a millionaire.
Dr. Imaji disclosed that participants will be given starter packs at the end of the training and urged them to use them judiciously.
