Ekiti United Football Club has sought for the postponement of their week six match in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) due to the automobile accident they had on Tuesday.
The Secretary of Ekiti United FC, Ayodeji Olowolafe, made this known in a statement yesterday in Ado-Ekiti.
Tidesports source reports that the team’s vehicle had an accident yesterday while the players and officials were returning from their Ikere-Ekiti training ground.
More than 16 of the 19 players, who were involved in the accident sustained varying degrees of injuy and were admitted at the State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
“A couple of players and a member of staff, who passed out due to shock needed serious medical attention before they were revived by the doctors.
“Medical experts have advised all players and members of staff who were in the vehicle during the accident to stay away from any tedious work.
“They are not to involve in tedious work, such as like training and active football matches, at least for the next nine days.
“However, an official letter has been sent to the management of NNL to inform the league organisers of the accident and its effect on the team.
“For this weekend’s match earlier scheduled to be played in Ado-Ekiti, our team will heed doctors’ piece of advice by staying off training and league matches at least for now,” Olowolafe said.
He added that the affected players and member of staff would have to get over the psychological and physical effects of the accident.
The club secretary however commended the prompt intervention of the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, who directed an immediate treatment of all affected people.
Tidesports also reports that the badly-damaged vehicle has been evacuated from the accident scene.
