‘Diobu Unity Football Competition Is To Sustain Peace, Unity’
The sponsor of the ongoing Diobu Unity Football Tournament in Port Harcourt, Prince L. Oladele, has stated that the competi-tion is to sustain the existing peace and unity among the youths, in Diobu axis.
According to him, the tournament is also to showcase hidden talents in the area, adding that there are many talents that are begging for exposure.
Oladele, who is popularly known as “Washere Omo” said this on Sunday, in an exclusive interview with Tidesports during the opening ceremony of the tournament, at the Rumu-woji football field, Port Harcourt.
He noted that, engaging the youths in a tournament was one of the best ways to take their minds out of crimes.
“You Know, when you engage a youth, you have engaged a full society, because the idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” Oladele said.
The tournament sponsor explained that before now, people described Diobu as a volatile area, saying that the competition is to further change the perspective of people towards Diobu.
He used the medium to appeal to the state government and multinational companies to sponsor some sporting activities that will engage youth.
“I want to use this opportunity to beg the government to do more in the sporting industry, we see what Governor Nyesom Wike is doing in the state in the area of sports,” he stated.
He revealed that the ongoing football competition was the first phase of his plan, as plans were on top gear to organise competition for the women.
“This is the first phase, after now, I will roll out other tournaments for our young ladies,” he said.
